My heart was deeply warmed by a personal letter from Pastor Mark Griffin this past week.   Mark grew up here in our ministry, and after training at BJU, served here at HBC.  It is hard to believe that he is now 40 years old and has served there at the Valley Bible Church in VT for 12 years.   God

Does your voice count?  At times, we wonder.  Voicing your concern over matters like this is your right and duty as a Christian and citizen.  Many called their State Senator and our governor’s office this week regarding the Marriage Equality and Religious Exemption Act to be voted upon this week in our state.  This bill redefines marriage and condones

It is important that we recognize the power of an “invite.”  Besides a church service, there are many other activities here at HBC when  we can invite another to come in contact with other believers or under the sound of the Word.  A Gospel presentation is often given at such times.  Have you invited someone to church or a

This first day of a new year is an opportunity for you to consider a few areas of your life that might need attention.  There are times when we might need to adjust or fine tune our priorities in some matters.  I am not one for resolutions, but we should renew our commitments from time to time.   We do not

Leftovers….  Now there is a post Thanksgiving thought to chew on for a few minutes.  I happen to enjoy leftovers; some things are even better the second day.  With all leftovers, there does come a certain point when they need to be discarded.  The prophet rebuked God’s people for offering “moldy bread” on the table of showbread [Malachi 1:7].

Thanksgiving week is upon us.  Family, feasting, and football will headline many homes in just a few short days.    May we learn to appreciate all that God has given to us and all that He has allowed in our lives.   In every circumstance [good or bad] we are to give thanks to our God. So…. how was the extra hour of sleep?  Why do we go through this trauma every year anyway? November is upon us.  The leaves are changing, the time changes, and some political offices will change.   I wonder if there are some positive changes that you will need to make in some measure.  Several have responded to the message last Lord’s

Dale Oxley, faithful servant of Christ, was called home to glory on September 30; he was 85.  Dale and Betty went to Japan in 1952 and served as church planters for half a century.  They were supported by our church since the late 1950’s.  Liz and I attended the memorial service this past week in Hermitage, TN.  I
