Nehemiah, whose name means Jehovah has comforted, was uniquely used of the Lord as a leader and visionary to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem in troublesome times. Nehemiah was a man of action, a man of prayer, and a leader. Eleven times in the book we see him praying, thus our series title – Kneeling with Nehemiah. This book is the final narrative of Old Testament history, and next to last book in the Hebrew canon. Here is a man who kneels before he acts! There is much for us to learn from this praying man who was a decisive leader.
