A Few Notes to the Family:
- The final concert at GCCS is tonight at 7 PM.
- Our Annual Christmas Dinner is tomorrow night at 6 PM. We will have ham and pork loin; bring a covered dish to share. We will provide dessert, beverage and dinner rolls too. Plan to be here.
As we look ahead to Sunday, I will speak on “The First Christmas Greeting” in the morning. Our choir will sing and Lena will also sing a solo. At our 6 PM service, we will sing carols, have testimonies, and the message will be “Conversations at Christmas” A Men’s Ensemble will provide special music and our Handbell choir will play.
I’ve been thinking …
About dates. No, not the first few times I met Liz, but calendar dates. 12-12-12 went by uneventful. 12-21-12 is the famous Mayan calendar date for the end of the world; we have until next week; we’ll see. Another date is Christmas, 12-25, corresponding to a pagan holiday – Saturnalias, and a Jewish Festival – Hanukkah. The Christmas date was chosen by Constantine when he Christianized the empire. While there is nothing special about the date of December 25th, it is appropriate to remember and celebrate the birthday of a very special King. On Sunday we will speak on the First Greeting that came from heaven to Mary; hope to see you.
