Dear Members and Friends of Hardingville Bible Church,
Though sometimes used as a special occasion for ministry, many of our missionaries remind us that Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday. It is for certain one of our best, particularly because of its biblical foundations. Psalm 100:4 states, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”
The specific day of commemoration may be distinctive to our nation, but the context of this passage shows that its application is assuredly not. Verse 1 presents this as a command to “all ye lands,” and its truth is one that continues “to all generations.” As we gather with whatever generations in whatever lands, may we know and serve the Lord in a greater way and celebrate His continual goodness and mercy in all our lives. Perhaps you could start the day with a Psalm or go around the table with individual reasons of thanks this year.
We would like to personally invite you and your family to attend our annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday, November 23, at 6 PM. The church will provide turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes. Please bring a covered dish or dessert to share. Pastor Ken McBride will be our special guest and challenge us from the Word. We will also have our Pie N’ Praise fellowship on Thanksgiving Eve, November 27. The praise service will begin at 7 PM in the Main Auditorium, followed by the pies in Harmony Hall. We will provide coffee and punch – just bring your favorite pie to share. We hope you will take advantage of these times of fellowship with the HBC family.
Giving thanks with you,
Pastor Bruce Dare
